This week, my family buried a great Godly man, my Uncle. A few days before he passed on, I got to sit with him and hold his hand. He had troubles speaking, so we didn’t do a lot of talking and that was okay because just being with him was enough for the both of us. Seeing him in that frail state was hard and there were times when I just wanted to cry, but I am so glad that I was able to spend some time with him.
My Uncle was a wonderful man of God that had a strong faith, loving husband, caring father & grandfather, and an awesome uncle. He touched many lives during his time here on earth (including me).
As we were leaving the facility he was in, I was sad because I knew that would probably be the last time I saw him on this earth, but God reminded me that this is only our temporary home, and that we have citizenship in heaven. Then about 5 min. later Carrie Underwood’s song Temporary Home came on the radio and I just couldn’t help but smile because it made me happy knowing that after we leave this earth, God has a room waiting just for us in heaven.
God places each of us on this earth to make a difference in some way, and when He feels that our job is done, He rewards us by reserving a more permanent place in heaven. THAT IS QUITE THE REWARD! I know that I will see my Uncle again someday, and I will smile as I think on all the great memories that I have with him.
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20-21)
