Facing Your Giants

Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, the people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Analkites there. (Deuteronomy 1:28)

When the spies came back with reports of giants and walled cities, they allowed fear to stop them from moving ahead and they started to complain about their situation. Sound familiar? Just like the Israelites, we too often become fearful and frozen when we place our focus on the negative instead of looking at what the positives could be. Your problems, or as I like to call them, your giants don’t have to rob you of the victory that God has in store for you.

What is your giant? These days my giant is a neck problem that I’ve been struggling with for about 9 months now. This is something that I’ve never shared with my readers before because it’s a struggle that I have chosen to deal with privately. I have good days and bad days. I see a chiropractor on a regular basis to help deal with this problem, plus other things that I do to help with this problem. These neck issues have morphed into other health problems such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, fatigue. This has made me fearful at times and sometimes causes me to become frozen to take any kind of step. Sometimes this fearfulness and becoming frozen is the work of the enemy placing thoughts into my mind. Why I allow the enemy to have control over me like that, I do not know!

Everyone faces a giant at some point in their lives. Instead of focusing on the negative parts of any situation (or your giant), choose to set your eyes and heart on the positive. When you are confronted with facing a giant, choose to move in faith even when you are crippled with fear. Focus on the positives while trusting in God to overcome the negatives. Don’t let your giant get the best of you!

As I was reading Dueteronomy 1:28 this week, the song Voice of Truth from Casting Crowns popped into my mind cause it seemed like the perfect song for this verse.
