Better Than Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread (Gluten Free & Dairy Free)

I have been fully dairy free since the Summer of 2014 and I haven’t really missed any of my dairy items until yesterday! I had a huge craving for Nutella yesterday, and since Nutella has dairy in it, I couldn’t have it. So I thought I would just make my own dairy free chocolate hazelnut spread to help satisfy my craving.

The recipe that I created for Chocolate Hazelnut Spread is so delicious and tastes so much better than Nutella. I decided to make enough so I could keep a little stash of it in the fridge.

GF, DF Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

1 Cup Raw Hazelnuts

1/4 Cup Honey or Maple Syrup

1 tbsp. Coconut Oil + A Little Extra for the Food Processor

1/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract

1/8 tsp. Cinnamon

Pinch of Nutmeg

Pinch of Salt

Preheat the oven to 375 F.

Place the hazelnuts in a bowl with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1 tbsp. melted Coconut Oil. Place the mixture on a cookie sheet and spread into an even layer. Roast them in the oven for about 8 min.

When the hazelnuts are done roasting, and cooled slightly peel them and place them in a food processor along with honey, 1/4 cup coconut oil, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and salt. Pulse the mixture until you achieve a creamy texture and smooth.

Serve on toast, crackers, or some kind of tasty snack!
