Dairy Free Super Frozen Hot Chocolate

We greatly love Starbucks at our house! My husband just adores their frozen hot chocolate. But since I have been dairy free, I haven’t been able to indulge in Frozen Hot Chocolate. But lately I’ve been craving a Frozen Hot Chocolate, so what is a dairy free girl to do? Create a homemade version of course!

The result? Well both my husband and I were very well pleased with the result. In fact, my husband even said that he liked my version better. That says a lot!

Frozen Hot Chocolate

When I made my Frozen Hot Chocolate I had to add my signature spin to it by making a peanut butter hot fudge sauce and by adding chia seeds to the mix. As much as I enjoyed the peanut butter hot fudge sauce, my afterward thought was I should have made a caramel sauce instead (cause I just love caramel). Perhaps next time!

But if you love Frozen Hot Chocolate from Starbucks then I promise you won’t regret making this homemade version of Dairy Free Frozen Hot Chocolate.

    Frozen Hot Chocolate
  • 2 Cups Almond Milk
  • 1 tbsp. Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tbsp. Maple Syrup
  • 1 tsp. Chia Seeds
  • 1 Cup Ice Cubes
  • DF Coconut Whipped Cream, for garnish
  • Sea Salt, for garnish
  • GF, DF, Chocolate Chips, for garnish
  • Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Sauce
  • 1 (14 oz.) Can Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/3 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla

For the Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Sauce:

In a blender, combine the coconut milk, coconut sugar, and cocoa powder and blend until smooth. This step will ensure the sauce will be smooth.

Transfer this mixture to a small saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer, stirring frequently for 10 min. Whisk in the peanut butter.

Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla.

Allow the sauce to cool for about 20 min.

Store the sauce in an airtight glass container in the fridge.

For the Frozen Hot Chocolate:

Place all of the ingredients (except for the peanut butter hot fudge sauce, sea salt, whipped cream, and chocolate chips) into a blender and process until smooth.

Drizzle some of the peanut butter hot fudge sauce between two glasses and allow it to coat the sides of the glass.

Pour the frozen hot chocolate mixture between the two glasses.

Garnish the hot chocolate with coconut whipped cream, chocolate chips, and sea salt.
