I am very excited about today’s post for 2 reasons. number one because I get to share my AWESOME week with you, and number two because I get to share with you the meaning of the name of this blog and how it came about!
But first I must tell you about my week and a concert that I got to attend on Tuesday. And YES, there are pictures!
This week, was a very busy but exciting week because our county fair, also known as the “The World’s Greatest County Fair” was going on. Now, I’m sure your thinking at this point, it’s just a county fair, probably not that big or even exciting, but I have to say you are wrong! The Clay County Fair has been going strong since 1917, and it attracts more than 300,000 people each September with unique experiences such as world class entertainment, daily livestock (it wouldn’t be Iowa without livestock), free entertainment, thousands of interesting exhibits, amusement rides, every imaginable fair food (if you think it exists it probably does), hundreds of commercial exhibits, and the largest farm machinery display at any fair in the United States. I could go on, but you get the idea!
As much as I enjoy all of the excitement that comes with fair week, it is also exhausting and we tend to adopt a wonky schedule during this week. So in a way, I will be glad when the fair is over (the official last day is September 18th) then we can go back to normal.
But, the best part of the week had to be the Phil Wickham/Mercy Me concert I got to attend on Tuesday. It was an outdoor concert so it was chilly, although I witnessed some people wearing shorts. Even though it was cold, it was surely worth it. We had good seats, and I managed to get some pics, but I was limited because my camera batteries were running low. But I still managed to snap some good pics. My pictures of Phil Wickham came out a little clearer than Mercy Me. I think I tinkered with my camera settings too much! So, please excuse the blurriness of some of the photos.
Of all the songs that were sung by Phil Wickham & Mercy Me, “Your Love Awakens Me” by Phil Wickham is what spoke to me the most!
I have heard this song many times before (because it is one of my favorite songs), but then the thought occurred to me there are so many people, so many Christians need a spiritual awakening. Many of us think we know all about God, the Bible, and what it means to live a Christian life. And many of us tell ourselves (and also believe) that everything is fine. But in reality, many of us are in a deep sleep. Our minds are so preoccupied with drama, work, unimportant things, money, and the list goes on. Our minds are filled with everything but Christ!
Of course, we don’t even realize how much we are asleep until we invite the Holy Spirit to AWAKEN us, and then suddenly we can see what has really been going on with ourselves. But we first must make a decision. That decision is that we must be willing to let go of everything that we thought has been real for us and allow the Holy Spirit to do an amazing work in us.
But then the thought occurred to me I wonder if an Awakening and a Revival are the same? What’s the difference (if any)?
After some research I learned that they are not the same, but they are very closely related. Even though they are very closely related, it is important to know the difference between these two concepts. We will be looking at both of these very closely so we can learn the difference.
What Is An Awakening?
The definition of the word awaken means to rouse from sleep; cause to stop sleeping. But the Biblical definition is not a waking from spiritual sleep, but a resurrection from spiritual death.
We were once dead, but because of what God has done, we are ALIVE, we were once lost, but because of God’s love we are FOUND! God’s love is stronger than our sin, it is greater than the grave, and it is calling us on a daily basis to live this life with a purpose and a passion. God desires his children to be people with our eyes and our hearts wide open to Him and His great love. So many times we are walking around in the busyness of life, doing our duties, not even realizing that our hearts and our spirits are asleep.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. (Ephesians 2-4-5)
The Holy Spirit has so much to say to our hearts, but we have drowned Him out with television, our worries, and our work. Do you desire to have a true Christian awakening? The first step is to ask the Lord to awaken you so you can see with eyes wide open what this life is really about and He will be happy to show you something that you might have forgotten. THAT HE IS ALIVE AND READY TO AWAKEN YOUR LIFE! If you have been lulled into a slumber, don’t you think it’s time to be awakened?
This is why it is said: “Wake up sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14)
What is A Revival
The definition of the word revival means to be restored to life or health. A restoration to bodily or mental vigor (vitality), to life or consciousness, or to sporting success. A re-awakening of something, or to something coming back to health, life or popularity. Only those who have at one time been alive in Christ can be revived in the true sense of the word from a state of spiritual faintness. Revival is something beautiful that we all should want to experience. But true revival doesn’t begin in the church; it begins in our hearts.
Some say revivals have died due to a lack of interest. But, I don’t believe that is true. A revival is something that we need more than anything right now. We need to recapture our first love, turn back to God, the God of love who changes lives and heals broken hearts.
True revival comes in response to our hunger for God. We need to make Psalm 42:1 the cry of our hearts.
As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. (Psalm 42:1)
When a true revival occurs, God first refines and makes us pure. He then fills us with His power. He places in our heart His love and compassion for those who are lost, beaten, broken, undone, and without hope. Revival normally begins among God’s people, but before long, revival overflows and spills out into the community and beyond. God’s power is so strong that even alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes, and those caught in other forms of addiction are set free and are transformed. When revival comes there is change anointing, tearing down of strongholds, peace, joy, and a stirring up inside the soul.
I think it’s time we turn back to God, repent, and ask for a revival for our families, our nation, and ourselves. I think we need to passionately pray for a revival! Throughout history God has sent revivals to countries in times of crisis, war, and economic stress. His word describes how He will look throughout the earth for those whose hearts have turned toward Him.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Do you desire to have a revival in your own life? Then you must be willing to humble yourself before God, turn from your ways to God’s ways, pray and seek His face and He will hear from you.
The Meaning behind the Name: The Kitchen Revival
Now that you know what an awakening and revival is, and also the difference, hopefully you truly understand the meaning behind the name, The Kitchen Revival. When I created this blog I wanted to show others who are Gluten Free, suffer from food allergies, or have dietary restrictions that life isn’t over just because there are certain things you can’t eat, but this is actually a chance to have a REVIVAL in the kitchen, in your recipes, and in the food that you eat. And also if Gluten has been the cause of your illness/sickness then you can be restored back to life or health through food (it was Hippocrates who said: “Let thy food be thy medicine”). Hopefully that makes sense! But, over the past few months The Kitchen Revival has grown into more than just a food blog, because I want my readers and fans to also experience a revival in other areas too, such as through your faith and well being, which is now the brand new mission of The Kitchen Revival.
The mission of The Kitchen Revival is to help you experience a revival of WHOLENESS through being a good steward of food, faith, and well-being.
Are you ready to experience an Awakening? How about a Revival? Perhaps both? I think its time that we all experience an awakening and a revival, not just with our faith, but with every aspect of our lives (marriage, family, relationships, exercise, our household).
What parts of your life could use an awakening or a revival? Lets have a discussion!
