All American Burger Salad with Crispy Fried Pickles (GF, DF)


Hope everyone had a great July 4th weekend! I enjoyed spending time with family this weekend and I also made a delicious and creative salad to celebrate the holiday. You gotta have food right?

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to share the salad recipe or the crispy fried pickles recipe, so since the pickles were a part of the salad I thought I would just share both. Since the fried pickles were my favorite part of the salad, I will share that first!

Crispy Fried Pickles

  • 6 Dill Pickle Spears
  • 1 Cup GF All Purpose Flour, for breading
  • 1 Cup GF Plain Breadcrumbs
  • 3 Eggs, beaten
  • Canola Oil, for frying


Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Place the pickles on a plate with paper towels and blot the pickles gently to remove any excess moisture.

In 3 separate dishes place, the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.

Dip each pickle into the flour, egg, flour again, egg again, and then the breadcrumbs. This will help to make sure the breading will stick to the egg during frying.

Fry the breaded pickles in the hot oil for 2-3 min. per side or until golden brown._

Now onto the salad! I’m sure at this point you are scratching your head thinking that a burger salad sounds strange! But hey, don’t knock it until you try it! I was strongly considering making burgers, but then I had this idea to just turn it into a salad. This salad was so yummy, filling, and satisfying!

All American Burger Salad

1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef

1/2 Sweet or Yellow Onion

2 Cloves Garlic, minced

1 Head Romaine Lettuce, chopped

5 slices of crisp cooked bacon, crumbled

3 Hamburger Buns, chopped into croutons

2 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Big Mac Sauce -Adapted from Top Secret Recipes

Optional Add-Ins – Diced Tomatoes, Shredded Cheese (either regular or Dairy Free), Jalapeño Peppers

For the dressing, I found a delicious recipe for Big Mac Sauce that I adapted from Top Secret Recipes. I modified the recipe just a little by not using the french dressing, and I used both mayo and DF sour cream. I also used Apple Cider Vinegar and chopped sweet pickles. Whisk all the dressing ingredients together and set aside.

Heat some olive oil in a large skillet and cook the ground beef until no longer pink. Add in the onion and garlic. Another option would be to form the ground beef into small hamburger patties before frying. That would also work great for this salad.

While the beef is cooking, chop your hamburger buns into croutons. Place them onto a baking sheet and toss them in olive oil. Bake them in a 375 F. oven for about 7 min. Remove from oven and set aside.

To serve the salad, place the lettuce onto a plate or salad bowl, followed by the beef mixture, fried dill pickles, crispy bacon, croutons, and dressing.
